Default Genova...anyone?

Hello everyone,

It’s good to read some of your posts.

I’m moving to Genoa with my 9 year old son this summer. His father is already there living with his family. Thinking of finding a place around Quarto Dei Mille. I saw that someone else had posted questions about the International School in Genoa but couldn’t email them directly because I hadn't posted the requisite number of times on the site.

Here goes:

Any advice, recommendations, information about Genoa would be much appreciated. Also any advice about kids moving to Italy and language acquisition. Due to the short time frame, I think we’ve opted for a private english speaking school for the first year (it’s bloody expensive though).

Due to my having lived in the US for the last few years, I’m no longer entitled to reciprocal UK healthcare so I’m having to buy full health coverage. Any recommendations on this would be much appreciated.

Hi Annapiana
I have just come back to the forum after a long break to search for something and saw your post. I am the lady in question and we did eventually move here last August.
Our youngest is at ISG and very happy there, its a lovely school. She spoke no Italian when we arrived and has really really come on. Most of the expat families live in Quarto or Nervi, we're not city people so we are living outside of the city, which suits us, but each to his own.
The people at the school are lovely and its a very inclusive and welcoming environment. Its sounds like you are an old hand at living abroad, but for us it was the first time. It can be very frustrating here as everything seems to be done in the most complicated way possible, but we are very happy and we have been building a house, which we move into next month, so I expect things to be even better then. I am afraid I know nothing about healthcare insurance as we haven't even found a doctor here yet, although we have made a couple of visits to the hospital with my daughter after riding accidents! Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Hello Mickey1,

Thanks for responding to my post. It’s great to hear that you’re enjoying living in Genoa and that your daughter is doing so well at ISG. I have just completed the application forms - my son will be visiting the school soon and I will do so once I get there. I think he'll be entering fifth grade.

I too would rather not live in the thick of things so I’ve been looking at a couple of places in Apparizione which is still in the city but on the quieter side.

Maybe we’ll meet when the new school year starts. I’ll drop you a line when I’m more situated. I’d be really interested in getting any tips on adjusting to Genovese life.
