Flying cats in to Italy questions...
#1
I've got a friend possibly moving from South Korea to Italy. She has an older cat that she's worried about flying. Can you fly a cat into Italy in the cabin of a plane rather than cargo? I think you can do this into France, but I'm not sure about Italy.

I dont know about flying from Korea to Italy and cabin or hold. But I would just like to say, that I flew my 17 year old cat from the UK to Italy. She had to go in the hold. But she was perfect and managed the adventure very well.
I think I was more stressed than her!

I recently did a lot of research into taking a small dog to UK, what I discovered was the UK has strange and unique rules about small (<5Kg) pets in the cabin, basically they don't allow it when flying into the UK. I never bottomed out the rules about flying from the UK but if durobird's cat had to go in the hold then presumably it’s not allowed either. Apart from the UK you can take small pets in the cabin, our dog has flown from Rome to Cyprus and back and from Milan to Rome no problem although I guess there may be a limit on distance, Korea to Italy with a pet in a carrier on your lap seems a long time, more so for your unfortunate neighbour!

From: London. and visiting Italy when the Parmesan runs out!

We flew our 21 year old cat over from the U.K. No drugs and she went in the hold. The staff at the airport were very conscientious and made sure the old girl had water and kept checking her out. She flew out alone as a friend popped her on at the U.K. end. I was frazzled waiting for her to arrive in the airport at Rome. We had a long wait at the Rome end and, I feared the worse, arriving dead, or sent to another country by mistake....She arrived on a fork lift..I ran to the box...she opened her eyes, yawned & fell instantly back to sleep with the boredom of it all...She had a marvellous year here, chasing geckoes and lying in the sun and died peacefully on Valentines Day in my arms

I can't help you, I'm sorry, but I just wanted to say that I flick-read the post title and saw 'flying cats in Italy'. I was very excited for a moment there.
Good luck finding the information you need though

We travelled from Japan to Florence via Vienna last year with our cat in the cabin. We used Swiss Air, but not all airlines will allow cats in the cabin. We had a spare seat next to us and the cat slept on the seat and she was absolutely fine. I think it cost us about €400 to do it this way.
