Exploding B&B in Rome
#1
A Scotsman enjoying a week in Rome was badly injured when his B&B exploded.
He had written on Facebook that it will be a great holiday if I am not killed in an absurd accident.

Two British tourists were killed yesterday in a cable car in the bay of Naples. This accident seems to be a lack of basic maintenance.

I think it is a good idea to take a good look at the equipment before buying a lift ticket.

I don't really think you could check out the "equipment" of a cable car before setting off. It's like any form of transport, public or otherwise. You just have to put your trust in who is driving/steering/maintaining anything. These things happen occasionally, but more so car crashes and other accidents.

Two fatal accidents in 65 years, with 100,000+ passengers per year, is actually pretty good odds. But as MarkRD said, you are likely at greater risk of having a fatal accident in a taxi, or even driving your own car.

The linked article that said it carried 110,000/yr, which means about 600/day for half the year, or 900/day for four months, which seems plausible.

I missed that about visitor numbers. Incredible that the old contraption is bringing in around a million euros per year. I visited the place 20 years ago and it didnt have much to offer back then. The weather yesterday was cold and rainy. If it had been a nice day the disaster would have been much worse.
