Re: Expats in Modena
Rome to Brescia for the signing on, scrutineering and start, then Brescia - Ferrara- Rome - Brescia for the "race" then Brescia back home to Rome - 2,760 Km in all

Re: Expats in Modena
I've lived in Ferrara for 15 years but never seen the Mille Miglia even tho it's an overnight stop. It's considered a bit of a snob event! :p

It is, it is VERY expensive to enter, some of the cars are literally priceless (like Stirling Moss’s Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR no. 722) and famous people take part (this year David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen and Stirling Moss at the signing on) a few years ago Vittorio Emanuele II. Even if you are not too keen on cars you must watch next year.
If it is, was it Berlusconi's last government that let him and his family back into Italy or was it someone else? Most folks know by now that I just don't even attempt to follow Italian politics anymore ................... but I do remember an advert by one of the previously exiled ones for "Sotto acetti Saclà ". Can you imagine Prince Charles or brothers doing an advert for pickled gherkins? |
Re: Expats in Modena
Lorna, it was the exiled king's son, we had to bump start his Alfa Romeo 1900 SS at a filling station near Viterbo.
I think it was Berlusca that let them back in, he ended up falling from grace when he was arrested in 2006, following an investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Potenza on charges of criminal association, corruption and exploitation of prostitution. The twat doing the ads is his son, Emanuele Filiberto i.e. the exiled king's grandson. |

Re: Expats in Modena
You may all be pleased to know that the young 'prince' has entered into politics and is running for the UDC (I think) for some position or other.
I saw him on Striscia la Notizia where he didn't really know what he was saying at a press conference thing and the top UDC bod had to prompt him all the time...hilarious! Anyway back OT: maybe I'll make an effort to see the Mille Miglia in FE next year, even tho it's always late evening/night and some people have to go to work next day! |
Re: Expats in Modena
Another reason to avoid politics here then.

Re: Expats in Modena
I got Sky TV and that helped me avoid the news and talk shows and politicians on TV.
To anybody handing out leaflets in the streets I just say "no grazie, sono straniera - can't vote here." Funnily enough all the stuff that comes through the post always comes in my very evidently foreign surname and not my Italian OH's name so that goes straight in the bin without even being looked at. Politics crops up sometimes with friends but they all know that I don't give a damn really and they don't go into in depth and lengthy conversations with me. Berlusconi crops up sometimes but my Italian friends think he as much a buffoon as I do and Lega Nord crops up too. |
Re: Expats in Modena
I've taken more of an interest this time as we DO have the right to vote both for the Europeans and the local elections including sindaco (I think).
I'm looking for alternatives to Berlusca of course... :p |
