Default EXPATS BEWARE

Read in local paper today, that Goa Tourism people have been in Italy and Denmark touting for business. No doubt they were spouting crap about pristine beaches, friendly people, etc. By and large, the people are friendly, but the nice picture ends there. The beaches are filthy. Every 5 minutes hawkers are at your side selling rubbishy goods, people trying to clean your ears of wax, tattoo artists et al. Taxi drivers charge what they can get. No meters. Cops on the make. Long term Expats are being told the homes they purchased legally are now illegal. And so it goes on. Its a shithole, please go some other place for you`re holidays.

Have a look at the BE forum, Goa,Buyers beware thread.

Regards,
Davie.

That's very harsh on Goa. Did you read it in the Daily Mail by any chance?
I've spent many holidays there. Goa's wonderful.

No duffer, I live here, unfortunately.
Don`t take my word for it, read other residents stories.

Daily Mail.....now that`s a joke.

Go to the Goa forum. Lots of Brits live here. Lots of Brits want out. The government here wont allow Brits to sell up and piss off. Most are retired, and planned a nice retirement, a peaceful one. All we have is a load of shit.
Tourists from UK have reduced considerably, hence the authorities are casting the net further afield.

Davie.

I haven't been over for 5 years now but it's hard to tell the difference between expats and holidaymakers (except for the old hippies hanging around daily at the same beach shacks). However we prefer Panaji rather than beaches. But the beaches we went to were mainly in the south because the first time we went there we were mainly in the resort area of Calangute and Anjuna and they were quite bustling instead of being tranqil and relaxing. However not that much different to Sottomarina here in Italy!

`Morning Duffer,
Yes, Baga and Calungute are indeed too busy, but some people enjoy this. I haven`t been on any beach for 8 or 9 years, I find them dirty and boring.
I hear the Goans are trying to promote medical tourism. Hospitals where bandages are used, washed, and reused! I had surgery done for cataracts (?). Three weeks later, told the surgeon I couldn`t see much different.he examined, said operation 100% but I have cancer in one eye!!!!! In 3 weeks!!! That was 2 years ago, and 4 eye specialists ago. Three weeks ago, an inspection showed some kind of film at the back of my eye. Less than 5 minutes on laser and my sight is 100%. Phoned surgeon number one, after quite a heated conversation, he tells me to take him to court. Considering the average length of a court case in India is 23 years, thats not on. Brits. are hated in India. Possibly they have their reasons, thats another story. Did you have a look through Buyers Beware? If not please do.
Regards,
Davie.

Blimey that's terrible news about the health care you received. In some ways Italy and Goa are the same: great for a 2 week holiday but terrible to live your life there. I'll check out that thread with great interest.
Ciao!

Good morning Duffer,
As you say, very sad.Living in Europe, you must find it hard to believe tat the average length of a court case is 23years. This figure was given by the Indian government, so could be even longer. I`m surprised you mention Italy being ok for two weeks but not to live in. I have no experience of Italy, but have always thought, being in Europe, it wouldn`t be too different from UK. How long have you been there? do you have a job? Speaka Italiano? Enjoy ice cream????

Have a nice day.
Regards,
Davie.

Duffer I do not know where you live in Italy (sure your doctors are not vets) BUT you are talking a load of BOLLOKS....YOU don't like where you live GO back home to the modern UK NHS sytem

My son came to visit me he had a cough and he told me that he was ok the doctor told him he had a slight infection.

The day before he was due to go home I was not happy and asked him to come with me to the docs..they sent him right away to hospitals for test and said "you are not going anywhere...In they found out that it was aspergillus and infection that spreads in the lungs....

They kept him in for THREE weeks and cured it....When i went down to the office to pay they said...."do not worry just take him home"

Now to me that's not bad going...OK that might not be every case but that's my experiance.

My cousin is a doctor and he has said lots of times that the best doctors are in Italy and the jurnals are full of Italian doctors with new breakthroughs...

It's just that here its the bureaucracy nothing else....

I think Duffer meant the health care that the other guy received in India. Duffer just said that Italy is great for a holiday - but different to living here full time - but we all know he exaggerates anyway.

I think Italy is not too far behind at 22 years for cases - or is that the time required for getting a reply from customer services to a complaint letter? Yeah the ice cream is not bad here however I prefer Ben & Jerry's!

While we are discussing the health system - I had a similar experience. I would just like to big up the health system here with regards to women's health. I went to UK doctors every 6 months for 15 years for something and even demanded a scan which was refused as I was "one of those paranoid women who cost the NHS mllions every year" (quote from my doctor).

As soon as I got here (Rome) the doctors were gobsmacked noone had looked into it before and run a load of tests and scans and I now have some answers!

I'm not sure about these new breakthroughs though posh...bit weary of them selling them on daytime tv!! I definately feel better about the system here though.
