Equitalia want money from me!
A very bizarre thing has happened! This morning I got two bills from what seems to be a debt collecting agency, Equitalia. One is for €62 for "tasse smaltimento rifuti e tributo provinciale" and appears to refer to the year 2009 and an address where I rented a monovano (but I rented it from 1986-89). The other is for a "Camera di Commercio - diritto annuale" debt of €270 and refers to the year 2006 and a business I closed in 1987. Oo-er! Any advice, opinions or comments from you kind people would be appreciated. Especially if you've had a similar experience!

They are too late for the rubbish bill for 86/89, but get it sorted out in writing -you and them. Possible with a cert. di residenza storica for then and now for 2009. If you've got a commercialista, get them to do it.
Camera di commercio. Do you still have the cancellation from the register paper work? If not, you need to go down to the camera di commercio and get a search done showing the company no longer exsists otherwise you will be getting 2007/8/9/10 bills from Equitalia. Again a commercialista can do this for you or if you're friendly with your bank manager he might get it for you.

We had exactly the same experience regarding the rubbish bill.
OH rented an apartment 8 years ago for six months and we got a letter a few years back from Equitalia/Gerit asking us to pay rubbish tax.
We paid it as we could not find any documents to prove that we have paid.
Obviously in your case you were not in the property for the year they are asking you to pay, so maybe you can prove with documents from the anagrafe at the comune that you did not live at that address?

Thanks so much for the advice. Everso kind and helpful. I'll get down to Camera di Com. first thing tomorrow. I'm sacred of more bills now! (Especially as I have no paperwork going back that far!).

Just reading the word 'equitalia' almost drives me to apoplexy. A government sponsored 'associazione a delinquere, di tipo mafioso, dedito all'estorsione e all'usura' is the kindest thing a I can think of to call them. If you have any dealings with them helped by a 'commercialista' be very very careful that he does the job very thoroughly. If, like us, your local coucncil has been so stupid as to let equiltalia manage their debt collection, woe betide you!
Im just off to the municipio to argue about ICI 2007 and TARSU 2011. And I don't trust any 'commercialista' to do it for me!
I won't bore you with other dealings I've had with equitalia due to sheer incompetence of trusted commercialisti.
ciao for now,
'o nonno

Ciao Pecora Nera, yes me too. I plucked up the courage just this week to throw away the water bills and SIP telephone bills for the 1970's. Still have the bits of paper that I am trying to convince INPS with, that I did indeed pay contributions in 73/74!
Re equitalia, at the end of the day you usually pay up, or they screw you into the ground.
ciao for now,

I thought the company tax would be the problem. But that was sorted out easily. The rubbish tax on the other hand... the extremely rude woman in the comune office informed me that I should expect more bills to come, as every time I have changed house (about 7 times over 25 years) I have failed to inform them. (Of course I changed residenza, so informed the comune - but not specifically the Rubbish Tax office). She reckons I therefore owe tax on every house from the moment I stopped paying (cos I moved out) til now! So I went to Equitalia office to see how much I owe. Queued for nearly three hours. Gave in my request for information and was told I can come back in two weeks to pick up said information. Two weeks! For a form to be printed out! There were over 100 people in the office, many shouting angry abuse at the hapless staff behind the counter. Some days, living here is just one big nightmare!

A friend of mine was telling me that she has never had a gas bill in the rented flat where she has been living several years now even though her late husband informed the gas provider that the bills are not arriving.
She wants to move out this summer and worries that a huge bill will arrive for all the years she had not paid.
She rents from a building company-do you know if they will ask for all the bills when she leaves? Is this what landlords normally do before you get your deposit back?

Yes, but what if they never got a bill in their name?

The owner was persuaded in 2004 to swap electric suppliers. He was told his electric bill would half- He set up a direct debit to the new electric company as instructed.
In 2007 a rather snotty man from N Power (the old electric supplier) called to see Mario and gave him 10 days to pay 17K.
I called N Power for Mario to try and work out what was happening. They said they had supplied the electric since 2007 and that it had never been transferred. N Power also said the bills and statement had been sent to the building next door by mistake, hence Mario was not aware of the impending problem
The (new) electric supplier that had been taking Mario's money for 3 years returned it about 7K.
We offered to pay N Power the 7K plus 3k and the remainder in instalments but they pulled the plug 10 days later.
When they came to cut of the Electric Mario told me and my OH that he had a party of 18 coming to eat that night. So later that night my OH and I returned and helped serve the food... by candle light. You should have seen Mario cooking by torch light and candle power in the kitchen.
The following day I called N Power and swapped my Gas & Electric to Scottish Power in protest.

That is really sad about Mario.... I had similar problems with NPower.... when you've rented as many houses as we have I guess it has to happen....
I really feel sad for people having to deal with Equitalia.... I think hearing about 37100's trials and tribulations have made me feel scared... can they still get you if you move out of Italy I'm wondering..... you can see why they are sooooo aggressive here when people try to get out of paying as many things as possible -but, galling when you are honest...

I haven't heard about Equitalia but I hope Anderson Council gets it sorted. With Mario we tried to reason with N Power we pointed out that if they pull the plug they won't get anything but if they negotiate they will get the initial money and the remainder by instalments. I wouldn't ever use N Power even if they are the cheapest..
