We've been looking at online car dealerships for a mini cooper for the wife. We saw one from a 'reputable' dealer with outlets throughout the country. It was advertised for 19,900 euros. It was almost brand new so my wife phoned the company and they said that was the finance price. If we were to pay cash, the cost would be 21,500 euros! I know that these car dealerships make a lot of money through customer finance but surely this advertising tactic is illegal!!

I'm sure even with the finance deal the actual price would never be 19,900. There's always an extra fee somewhere. However, at that price you might be better buying outside Italy and re-registering. A brand new Cooper is less than 21500 in Germany. It is standard practice as far as I am aware. The advert does say price depends on taking finance and even if you take the least amount of finance possible, over the shortest term, the interest is ridiculous.
