Hi , again sorry to ask for help, it appears all I ever do on this forum is that, I'm hoping one day someone will desperately need help with either a)containers or b)an intricate knowledge of the Arsenal football club , so I can return all the favours but....
I have an English car over here (peugeot) however since I've only been here 3 months, i've managed to rack up a fair few thousand miles and I was wondering where anyone took their english cars for either servicing or for parts , i've noticed my tyres are pretty much gone, but someone quoted me 575 Euro for all 4, which is ridiculous, that wouldnt be more than £200 back home, I had a problem wwith the car once and popped into a local garage, they took one look at the fact it was right hand drive and washwed their hands of it !!
Anyone got any good tips (I;m in the Padova area if anyone has a local garage who sorts them out
)
Thanks for any assistance

I too have an English Peugeot, but don't have any problems getting it serviced and/or repaired over here and know of others who get their UK cars sorted without problems. Always funny seeing the mechanic get in the wrong side though!
I've just bought 2 new tyres which cost 80 EUR each, but were Perelli's. Not sure how that compares with other prices both here and the UK, but seems to be about the going rate from what I've heard. By the way, I'm in Abruzzo
PS Think Arsenal need all the help they can get.

Hi Tom
we have a Peugeot 206 in Andalucia, Spain which came over mid March. Needed 2 new tyres and got those for abt €75 each.
Also managed to find a couple of mechanics with their own business, both speak English, use email and have their workshops like operating theatre, painted floors yes but also painted walls. Even had clean overalls every day. Very professionally run business, puts alot of UK businesses to shame.
There are the people out there, I don't see that our experience is any different to that in Italy and you should be able to get reasonable prices for most things, and don't be surprised at how good their English can be.
hope you get someone on here that can help more than I can

The fact it is RHD shouldn't make that much difference to a mechanic. I took mine to a recommended garage and they never had problems with getting parts. I think they kept getting in the wrong door when they needed to drive it though!
Car stuff is more expensive here. I often save the big stuff for when we are in the UK.

Again, appealing to those with a better understanding of local language than me, but whats the Italian for a full service of the car ?
Think there was an offer on groupon a while back, but can't find it, plus it probably has expired.
Thanks for your help

you need to ask for 'un tagliando completo'.ciao for now,
'o nonno

You would also need to do a REVISIONE (the Italian equivalent of the MOT), which many people do at the same time as the tagliando (service), the revisione is required when your car is 4 years old and then every 2 years. To this, you should also add the BOLLINO BLU (an emissions test), which is conducted annually on cars 4 years or older. Usually you get a discounted rate for the Bollino Blu when done at the same time as the revisione.

Cheers for that guys,
Duffer, the car is registered in UK and insured back there too, so I will get the MOT sorted back there, should suffice shouldnt it ?

Oh I forgot, if it's road legal in the UK and your insurance provides coverage in Italy then you don't need those 2 things.
You just need to do your tagliando, I just fear that there will be hoardes of garages waiting to rip you off, considering your lack of Italian and it being a RHD vehicle. Something in the manner of the Kwik-Fit way, they won't just rip you off but they'll recommend that a part needs replacing as it's worn although said part would probably be fine for another 1-2 years.

At the risk of being thought provocative or, even worse, taking the thread off thread, don't ignore the immigrant sector in Padova; they will have had to develop facilities they could afford, will probably have a workshop you can see into to judge (think of your average dealership) and may offer a better chance of a discussion in English.
Just a thought.

The man is right: When we first came here we had a Ford Galaxy; I took it to the local ford garage and said I would like a "tagliando completo" and said IF you find any BIG jobs do not do it "RING" me first, as I am in the UK seeing my parents..
ON my return I went to pick the car up.... 1500 Euros Ferking Bankers.... Ripped me right off...
I found out later that Because A) They did not ring me and B) I never gave the permission to do the "EXTRA" work I did not have to pay and they would have had to put the car back as was..... BUT hay we live and learn.....
