Is this such good news? Boots shops often struck me as rather expensive on many items in their UK shops. Not a UK company any more either. Of course I know that Italian pharmacies can be notoriously pricey.

Interesting modicasa - what sort of stuff and do you know why not? I do remember once entering Italy and a customs notice had a pic of stuff you apparently weren't supposed to be bring in and on a very casual view (I was naturally in a hurry/distracted) some of the things looked like pretty normal prescription drugs to me. Apologies if I'm being thick.

the original Boots made (IMO) a massive mistake to take that big step into Europe by "merging" with the Alliance chemist chain in Italy. They paid too much and had some very poor reports by bean counters leading to their being rescued by US Venture Capitalists KKR in a sweetheart agreement arranged by Stefano Pessina the original founder of Alliance. (another mistake by Boots - they didn't lock him out!!)

So probably the high prices in Italian pharmacies is truely reflected in Boots prices.

As an aside, for those so minded Screwfix of the UK are also now delivering within the EU.
Delivery is a bit pricey at £20 (below £100) but this can easily be amortised across savings if you plan your items. Their delivery was excellent when I used them for delivery to Spain.

Re Boots - no electric or sonic toothbrushes or spare parts, no vitamins etc, and no coal tar shamppo - thats just personal experience, but Im sure the list goes on. As an aside - why havent sonic toothbrushes ever been sold in Italy - I love my sonicare, but here they act as some antique oral b 300 revs a minute spazzolini is state of the art - or is it just market fixing......

coal tar shampoo and soap I have been using for almost 50 years since I started using back in the mid-late 60's when on my first trip to Singapore and have used since then.
Shampoo is to my mind getting harder and harder to get hold of but my sister works for Sainsbury's and it is on the BCS website
