BBC via satellite in Italy?
We're on HOTBIRD satellite & get BBC world & other freeview channels. Our sat. receiver doesn't have the facility for a card.
We would like to know what digital TV packages are available in Italy so we can receive other BBC channels e.g. PRIME plus other English speaking ones.
Thanks for your help.

BBC Prime is available as part of the standard SKY package along with several other channels that have programmes with dual audio (so you can watch them in English or Italian). You can also "buy" BBC Prime direct from the BBC - see http://www.bbcprime.com/channelInfo....nu=channelinfo

IMHO the best way to get BBC Prime and a lot of other programs with original audio is to subscribe to Sky Italia.
Now it offers pretty much the same as Sky UK (not sure if this is good or not ), all with double audio (with the esclusion of Disney channels).
Decoder, card, dish and installation are free is you take one of their offers.
Monthly subscriptions range from €20 to €53 (if you are interested in Italian football).
I don't think subscribing directly only to BBC Prime make much sense considering that you need a decoder with Viaccess module, plus the first year cost is about €200.

Then you take with you the decoder or just buy one (even second hand)... it's not perfectly legal in contractual terms but I think a lot of expats in Europe do the same. Beware that you will not be able to connect the decoder to the phone line, so no decoder discount (by contract you should keep it connected to the phone line for 1 year) and no PPV.
PS You can also ask for a viewing card to BBC without subscribing to Sky.
