I have never met so many expats that are unhappy with their location, one wonders why some still live in Italy.
. to be honest, I think that many of the BEs in the forum love Italy and would like that the country could be better. Italy has many potentialities and many things that happen there (I am in Doha now) are a real shame. Nobody can deny it. this is the impression I got, as an Italian. I wrote, in a PM to a member, that we Italians don't appreciate when someone else express bad opinions about Italy, even if they are right, because it is as if someone would say something bad about our mother. We know the defects of our mother, but we don't like that others remind them to us. Right? :-) Said that, I don't know if our canadian friend is following the forum anymore, maybe we scared her! :-) I suggest to go back to the suggestions about Sicily. I too would start from elsewhere for the first time in Italy...and take a trip around all the country. ciao, Primula |
Re: Any advice?
About Tuscan Regional Cousine, I have this book at home and it is just fantastic!
Titolo La cucina toscana in oltre 450 ricette Autore Righi Parenti Giovanni Editore Newton Compton (collana Cucina italiana Newton) It is not easy to read and it is not systematic, but it tells stories about the recipes and really shows typical and old traditional recipes. It explains that the famous French dish "canard a l'orange" is actually an ancient Tuscan recipe (papero alla melarancia) which was imported to France by Caterina dei Medici, who was the wife of the French king Henry II and then Queen of France. It has I don't know how many different versions of the "ricciarelli" from Siena. here is a review, in Italian. |

We know the defects of our mother, but we don't like that others remind them to us. Right? :-) The folks on here know Italy very well and have moved beyond the initial stages of the love affair. My aunty thinks Italy is the best country in the world. She told me so recently. Mind you she's never been. A little light questioning revealed that this impression is entirely based on a brief affair (I'm not even sure if it was consummated) with a young Italian* in Blackburn who took her back to see his family which she really warmed to. Sometime in the 60s I would imagine. * The Italian was quite possibly born British but just of Italian extraction. I did offer to lend her a small selection of books on Italy but she declined. She prefers the dream. {edited for typo} |
