Default Working remotely on tourist visa

Hi all,

A little background - my best friend moved to Australia in 09 and after 4 trips on tourist visas it's time I stop ignoring how much I want to be there. Specifically Brisbane.

So the hard part - how?
I'm 36 and based in the UK so I can't go the working holiday route. The next best option for a taster of a year living there looks to be the 12 month tourist visa and I could stay with my friend and split rent - however I'd really like to be able to live/work/earn the whole thing. The rules seem like I can't take work away from Australian citizens while on a tourist visa, which is totally understandable, but if I'm working remotely for my UK job then I'm not technically doing that as it is not open to Australian citizens? Does anyone have any clarification on this?

I'm not sure what my next options would be - my work is as an accounts assistant so it's not a standalone job I can apply for entry with. Is there a list of people looking to sponsor jobs anywhere? Do I need to marry my friend?

thanks for any input and not laughing too hard at my lack of options and info!
Sarah
