Smile Working Holiday to Permanent Visa- Help!?

I am a 26 year old British Citizen living in Maroochydore on a working holiday visa which began (November 14th 2005) and want to start an application for a permanent visa - I have worked in recruitment as a consultant (am a member of the REC) for two years out of the last three - does anyone know if this is a valid amount of experience to put in an application??
If not does anyone know of any other ways around getting a permanent visa??

This question is too general for any meaningful reply. You should visit http://www.immi.gov.au and see what migration options may be available (probably general skilled or employer nominated).

If still confused, a consultation with an experienced professional might help.

Recruitment consultants are classed as personnel consultants on the skilled occupation list and it is a 50 point occupation. The amount of experience you need depends on the type of visa you are applying for (my partner is a recruitment consultant, we are applying for a 139 sponsored visa, he only needed 12 months experience in the last 18 months, which he had).

Another option is to consider getting a recruitment company to sponsor you for either a 457 working visa or even better, permanent residency. There is a shortage of recruitment consultants in Australia, and UK experience is looked on favourably. My partner's desperate for another couple of consultants for his team in Sydney, but is finding it hard to attract experienced consultants.

Hi Katt,
I too am here in Australia on a working holiday visa and have recently submitted an application for general skilled migration (independent skilled). The biggest problem many WHM face is the recent work expreience criteria as many are likely to not have had the required experience because they've spent time travelling and not working...

So my comment would be that if you want to pursue one of the options that requires recent work experience then get on with it sooner rather than later. I used the 12 months BEFORE I arrived in Australia as my recent work experience... If I tried to apply for this visa towards the end of my stay here then I would fail the RWE criteria. Just somthing to bear in mind.
Also bear in mind there is no bridging visa for independent skilled... Which may or may not be a problem for you.

There are a multitude of permanent visa options. The DIMIA website is the place to start as suggested by JAJ!

Thank you so much for responding - this is the first time I have used the site and I can't believe how helpful everyone has been! - I am probably going to be here (sunshine Coast) for at least the next 6months as it is so beautiful - but I am already considering a relocation after this (I think it will increase my options a lot more being based in a more industrialised area) which field of recruitment is your partner working in - I have worked in Commercial Recruitment and also for a Specialist Care Agency. I dealt with both Permanent and Temporary recruitment (two years in all) I also have my MREC certificate with me?!

Thanks! I have spoken to lots of Ex-Pats over the last few days and it does seem to be the general consensus that I should act now rather than wait until the end of my visa - although I though that part of the terms of a working holiday visa were that you could not submit an application for another type of visa whilst it is valid - is this not the case????

No this is not the case. As long as you don't have a "no further stay" condition on your visa which most WHM visas do not. As long as you don't have this condition there is no restriction on you making a visa application for a permanent (or another temp res eg 457) visa.

He works in legal and finance (absolutely no help to me when I was looking!). He was sponsored by an Australian recruitment company to come over here and work for them on a 457 visa, and brought me with him. Now we are applying for permanent residency, so that I can get a permanent job in Government (my field) which I can't do on a temp visa, and so that we have a bit more security and can buy a home out here a bit more easily.

There's a lot of work for recruitment consultants in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney - also Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai if you want to look further afield!
