Unhappy Why so long?? RSMS

Hi, we are going mad here! Our RSMS visa application is 16 weeks old now. I know know it is not a long time in general. But is seems that most other RSMS visas take around 8 weeks! Our meds were sent 11 weeks ago, and our agent said it should take not more than 3 weeks to approve. That was ages ago. Every day since then we've been checking our emails every morning without fail and .... nothing. Our agent says all we can do is wait. Is that it? Do we just wait? Surely we can ask the CO what is happening?

We're convinced it's bad news.

Anyone one else been through RSMS, any advise?

Hi Fairgoes,

All you can do is track it down through the relevant business unit and ask, but your agent would be able to do that too. I can say that a couple of business units had sizeable backlogs earlier in the year, but at the moment your experience seems a little unusual. On the other hand, we have seen people historically wait a lot longer for an RSMS visa so perhaps you're lucky to be applying in 2005.

Cheers

Hi George

Our application is at the Brisbane business unit. Do you have any idea if they had a large backlog too? Our visa was acknowledged beginning of June. We do have a slightly costly medical issue. Could that be the delay? Would they be working out costs?

Thanks

Hi Fairgoes,

Indeed that does change everything :-)

If it's a medical issue and you're waiting for a waiver/concession then it could take a very long time and I certainly wouldn't be suggesting you contact the business unit, assuming your agent has handled everything carefully up to now. Essentially you're asking them to do you a big favour so you can't afford to push...

Hi George,

I was not aware that a health waiver was available for RSMS...

Could well be that the medicals are still being assessed by HAS. On the other hand, DIMIA may be waiting for background security checks to be finalised, or some other issue completely unrelated to health.

In the circumstances, it's probably worth following up on as Brisbane is usually fairly efficient in dealing with cases.

Hope this helps.
