Default Where in Melbourne?

Hi everyone,

My family and I are moving to Melbourne in June and we will be renting first until we find our feet and want to find somewhere where we will settle down and hopefully stay until I go senile when I am found wandering down the street in my PJs in the early hours, but hopefully that is in about 35 years time! My eldest girl is 5 and we will be looking for a school for her. We are looking in the Morington area all the way down to Rosebud, anywhere where the coast isn't far away and where are things to do.

If you have any tips or warnings please do post.

Hi, we live in Mornington and love it here, it really is beautiful as are many other places in Melbourne, but I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you come down to the Peninsula. First of all though, you perhaps need to consider where you will be working, what do you do? As I say we live in Mornington but mt OH has to travel to the CBD every day for work which is just about feasible from here but I wouldn't go any further down the Peninsula if that is the case. Once you get down to Rosebud and Dromana you start to get more into the retirement bracket of the population in my opinion, although there will of course be plenty of families there as well, but access to the city is a lot more difficult if you like going to the theatre, "footy" etc. Also Rosebud in particular is a nightmare in summer as its a popular holiday destination and one long traffic jam, we aviod it as much as we can.

If you have a 5 year old daughter you will also need to consider where she will go to school, state or private? If you are going the state route you will need to live in the catchment for the school in most cases. If you are going private then Mornington would be a better bet as most of the decent private schools are in Mt Eliza or close by, once in Rosebud etc she will be faced with a long ride to school every day. Many do it but its something to consider.

PM me if you'd like any further details.

Good luck, you'll love it here I'm sure.
