What's needed for a wedding?

Hi guys,
My fiance and I are planning to marry in Australia in April next year, just wondering
what paperwork we need (if any) outside of immigration issues? He's American, so does
he need any local permission to marry an Aus. citizen in this country? Or can we just
go ahead and do it?
Cheers

All you need to do is find a celebrant and fill in an 'intent to marry' form. This
must be no less that one month and one day before the wedding and I believe no more
than six months before the wedding. All the best, Steve

I think both parties also need to produce birth certificates or passports for
ID purposes

hey there
i'm in the process of going thru the same thing. i'm canadian and am marrying my
aussie fiance. we had to fill out the intent to marry form and produce birth
certificates.
we're opting for a small city hall type ceremony. if this is your choice, it
costs $132 thru the office of births, deaths and marriages. this fee varies based
on the celebrant (found in the yellow pages). most of their quoted fees were in
the $250 range.
$110 is the standard fee for the intent to marriage form and yes, there must be
a waiting period of one month and one day, and cannot be done more than 6 months
in advance.
all the best and wish me luck with immigration...those are the forms and fees
i'm dreading.
