What are our chances?
Hello All,
First post, so go easy on me if I have said anything wrong or it's been answered a million times!!!
I am 23, and my girlfriend is 20. We are both thinking of starting a fresh life in Australia, it's been kind of a dream for us both for a long time, the UK just isnt for us. I also have Family in New Zealand.
I want to know what our chances are of getting in Australia are.
I am going to become a Electrical Engineer and my missus is going to be a Chartered Accountant. Are these desired jobs in Australia??
Any other help or information about how we go about it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
SM.

As to your immigration questions, I can't answer them (as much as I'd like to) but I'm sure someone will be along soon to help.
Enjoy your time with B.E.
Alistair.

Re: What are our chances?
Have you thought of doing the 12 month Working Holiday Visa?
There are other options such as skilled visa (but you may not have the number of years work experience requried in your chosen field, so you may have to gain work experience first. So you will need to find out how your skills are assessed and what the criteria is).
Have you looked at www.immi.gov.au? There is an easy to use tool that will help you see which visa you may qualify for. So that is probably your best starting point, and then others can help here if you have specific questions. Good luck.

Not thought about the 12 month working holiday visa - Is this advisable?
I will take a look at the website now - thanks for the information.

Re: What are our chances?
It is a temporary visa for 1 year, and there are conditions attached such as not working more than 6 months in any one job. It may be possible to get a second 1 year WHV visa if you do fruit picking for 3 months I think.
It is a temporary visa, but it may mean you get 1 or 2 years living in Australia, and that can help you decide what you want to do next .. you may decide that Australia is not in fact where you to want live.
But it's going to be up to you to weigh up the pros and cons for you. And I still would suggest having a look at the immi website to see if you qualify for any other visas based on your skills/experience.
