Default What are the implications of pregnancy on visa application?

Friends,

We just found out that my wife is pregnant (4-5 weeks) [unplanned, but
not unwanted].

We'd like to understand what might be the implications of this to our
138 application:

- we've already done the medicals and sent them off to DIMIA.
- centrelink interview is a couple of days from now (we're not telling
them yet).
- we've already posted change of circumstances before we found out
we're pregnant.

If the baby is born before we get the visas, I understand we have to
apply a visa for it? Does that mean we have to stay out of Australia
until we get a visa for the baby? Or can we bring the baby as a
'tourist' (a noisy and messy tourist) and then apply a dependent visa
for it while in Australia?

If the visas come before we give birth, and we decide to give birth in
Australia, how much would it cost us to give birth there as new
immigrants? Are we covered by some sort of social health subsidy?

Thanks for any info.

- Francis
