What happens if blood pressure goes up at meds
Hi,
Just wondering if at the medicals blood pressure goes up because of stress (just supposing) than what happens - especially if you have no history of high blood pressure
Anyone had this happen? What happened next. ALso can somebody tell me the classification for the medicals and the different process. ie. if you get an A (what does this mean) is there anything further that needs to be done regards meds. WHat is a B ? what happens in these cases? And can you outright fail.
please shed some light on this someone

If your BP is high it will be repeated.Doctors are used to seeing 'white coat hypertension'.
If it remains consistently high they may ask for a specialist report.
If your BP is normally OK stop worrying.
You can always ask your GP to provide a record iif you have had it measured in the past.
Very few people fail the medicals.
Best wishes

Re: What happens if blood pressure goes up at meds
Cheers, I have never had high blood pressure and to be honest don't really understand all that 110/60 stuff. I am just trying to concentrate on staying unstressed. However apart from that is there any other ways that a healthy person can stop their blood pressure going up - i.e. diet, breathing exercises. I have a habit of winding myself up and I reckon that I might at the medicals. Does any one have any tips on keeping calm and helping the whole process go smoothly?

I actually told the doctor that I don't like doctors, hate medicals, and had been fretting myself stupid for a couple of weeks. He was really good, put me at my ease, and although i didn't enjoy it he did get me to relax a bit - got me to talk about Oz and why I was going, that sort of thing.

I think you are worrying too much.
However if you want to reduce BP you should avoid salt, reduce weight (if you are overweight),excercise regularly and reduce alcohol intake.
Also stick to a healthy diet.
Acute stress is only likely to raise BP in the short term. It is common for it to be high at medical examinations and Doctors are aware of this.It is called 'white coat hypertension'.
Now stop worrying, the medicals are a doddle.
Best wishes

I completely agree with, Grayling, Polyana and everyone else who's replied. The Doctors know how nerve-racking this can be, mine did the same as Polyana's, asked me about OZ etc. He told me he thought I had a hole in my heart and then took my BP, so you can imagine how much it had shot up! He took it again a few minutes later and it was back down to a normal level
You'll be fine, don't stress!!

Thanks, I guess that everbody feels apprehensive at medicals. Am I right at thinking that the medicals are mainly a physical MOT and so long as you have nothing which is physically wrong you will be o.k. As far as I know I don't so fingers crossed for the meds.
Again thanks everyone for reassurance, I don't know what I would do at the moment without the info that you are all giving.
Cheers again

The medicals are very basic.
Everyone seems to feel nervous about the medicals and then come back on here afterwards and say it was a doddle.
You will be fine.
Start worrying about what you will have to do after you have got your visa !!!
Best wishes

As for the Cat A versus Cat B thing...people with a totally clean bill of health, not on any medication etc are put in Cat A. Those with any kind of ongoing condition or treatment (minor or major) will be put in Cat B. If your condition is considered minor (well controlled asthma, for example) all this will mean is a slight delay in your application while DIMIA send it off to one of their medical officers for the all-clear. If it's a more serious condition, there may be more follow up tests or reports to obtain.
