Waiting times - Adelaide?
We have applied for skilled independent visa in February 2002 to Adelaide.
We were asked for the original skills assessment mid-September and were told that Adelaide required the information by 29 October or they would go ahead with a decision. We sent the original skills assessment same day.
Has anyone had any experiences of being asked for more information? How long has it taken for people to hear more news? Are we optimistic hoping for medicals before Xmas????

Adelaide doesn't have enough of a track record yet to you to know
whether they're simply doing an initial check, or whether your
application is being assessed.

Hi Tracey
You are lucky. We applied March 2002 and so far no news. What is your
occupation? Are you on timeline?
Hoping to be in Oz - March 2003.
Thanks

I too applied in March 2002, but no reply after acknowledgement. Seems
to be have to wait until we get really frustrated.

Re: Waiting times - Adelaide?
Hi Tracey,
We applied in Feb 2002 as well and received our letter of ack dated March 8.
At this time we were in the MODL (C++ skills).
Our app was not fast-tracked, and I still dont know why, as to my understanding, fast-tracking was only stopped in may.
We were asked additional professiona l papers, and as the letter arrived late, we asked an additional delay. We sent the papers on time, in June.
Since then, no news.
As I was worried that the papers could be lost by the postal services (it happened once), I finally called DIMIA in September. I was told that my application was not assessed yet.
We initially thought that we could get the medicals before Xmas, but obviously it was not realistic.
Today, I'm just hoping that I'll get the medicals before the end of the 50 weeks...
I think that, in a way, the immigration processes are slown down by the international economic situation... At least, it does not help...
The only thing we can do is to accept that, and to wait...
Good luck,
Myriam

Re: Waiting times - Adelaide?
Hi, I spoke to my migration agent this morning (Concept) who informed me that it may be a long ride. Due to the additional pressure of added apps being sent to Adelaide the 50 weeks waiting time had "Now been blown out of the water". They said it was only a matter of time before the 50 weeks was extended. This has really put everything into turmoil like for everyone else the next year is planned out to go to Australia next year, the thought of waiting maybe 20 months is a nightmare. i know people have been waiting as long as this who applied to London but when we first applied we were only looking at 7-8 months. Bummer.

Hi Gibson.
Maybe I'm an eternal optimist, but I believe from a recent seminar I attended in Melbourne that DIMIA are introducing more staff to the Skilled Processing Centre in Adelaide over the next few weeks in an effort to get processing times down.
Have a look at this thread from the BritishExpats site as well:

Best regards.

Good news - hopefully your wait won't be too long now.
Did you receive the results of your medicals there and then? Do they give you the results to send to Adelaide or do they do that?
Have you family in Brisbane already? Where are you thinking of settling?
Hope you hear more soon!

Vivek,
Why were you asked the following:
1) demand for transcripts? I thought you have to send this along with the application.
2) IELTS? I thought if you are educated in English you dont require this.

Jude,
I am from India an DIMA doesnt believe in what the people from3rd
world countries say. I gave them everything along with my application
but they wrote me that due to verification problems from some
countries we want that the documents should be sent directly from the
Universities and somehow my father managed it as i am living in
germany .
I didnt enclosed the IELTS results at the time of my application
instead i gave them the proof that whole of my education is in english
(a letter from my school) but they told me everybody should now give
ielts
I gave ieslts without anypreparation and the exam was next day i
cleared it with not much points but sufficient 6.5 which is enough for
20 points. they told me that u should send the payemenet slip for
ielts till 19th nov. I send them the slip as well as the my test
appearance card. And asked my test centre to send the results directly.
This all happened from 6th March 2002 - till date and i donno whats
next
but i really am not in hurry , letem take there time.

No we had to wait a week because of the aids test they do (every body 15 or over has to have one) came home with the xrays everything else was posted to us. Yes we have to send medicals to Adelaide but only when police checks come back and everything will go together, we are using concept Australia so it will go to them to forward. This morning received first police check back for my son, thought they would all come together hope the others arrive monday!!
My sister and family emigrated to Brisbane last christmas so thinking of settling there but havn't been yet so who know's, went to perth 2 years ago and loved it.

I'm feeling a bit peeved/anxious/uncertain at the moment as far as my application goes - does that sound familiar? Fortunately for me, the day after I sent my application to Adelaide, nurses were given priority processing. Sent 07/05/20002 - so fairly recently I suppose when looking how long others on here are having to wait. I applied at the same time as one of my friends who was granted his visa a month ago.
I decided to ring Adelaide as to find out whether there was any problems with mine as sent off medical & police clearance in August. And after all, one of my letters did say that priority processing times were 'usually' 3-4 months. I had a very disappointing conversation with the person who answered my call - very offhand - almost rude, and told me that my medicals had been sent to Sydney Health Assessment Service on 17/10/2002 - some 7 weeks after they would have received them!! And this is what they refer to as priority processing!
From this I have learned that it very, very much depends on who you get as your case officer. Obviously my friend who's had his visa granted got lucky! His priority application took 5 months. I reckon mine is going to take nearer 7 to 8 months, abw.
I do know that I'm lucky to be processed as a priority at all, but as well as getting this grumble off my chest, I hope my experience might shed more light on just how variable and lengthy this whole process can be...
