We are offshore awaiting the process of Child101 Visa Applications...
We want to return home, ASAP, but got the impression there would be problems if we tried to use another visa to go to Aus., for the waiting period...

However on another Post I read:

"To top it all off, our Child Visa 101 has not come through yet although the case officer says
########all we need do is get a holiday visa for the baby
########then fly out of Australia and back to validate the visa on the way through immigration.

Can anybody advise please?

I've moved you into a thread of your own in the Immigration forum as you are more likely to get an answer here than in a thread whiere the Child Visa was really only mentioned in passing.

If you don't want to it out, tell your case officer your plans and ask permission. Don't think it will be a problem but suggest you ask

We did that, same advise from case officer. Flew to Australia in November, visa ready to be granted in December and my daughter and I took a flight to New Zealand in February, visa granted day after we landed in .NZ and back to Australia the next day.

The disadvantage of the holiday visa is that you need to go offshore when the visa is granted and you may have large school fees depending on state and age of child while not on PR visa.
However while child visas are on some form of go slow and you need to get there or re-unite with your child, there are few other options. Ours took from January to September to be granted last year.
Good luck

when the subclass 101 application is being processed, can parent apply for family tax benefit, and medicare for the child living with parents by tourist visa (subclass 600) in Australia ?

Medicare is quite important for little kid, hope somebody with similar experience could share, thanks.

As the child will be a 'tourist' I doubt you will qualify for tax benefits until the child visa is granted.

Your case officer is the best person to ask. But, yes, you can apply for any other visa that your child is entitled to, i.e. a visitor visa, and travel to Australia as soon as it is granted. You will need to let your CO know that you will be doing this and they will be in touch when the visa is ready to be granted.
