Default WA state sponsorship

Hi All,

I'm looking to get the get started on applying for WA state sponsorship but don't really know what I need to do. I'm currently living in Perth on my second year working holiday visa. I'm an electrician and have got my 'A' grade licence which should help. I'm wondering how hard is it to apply without going through a migration agent as it would be alot cheaper. Also how hard would it be for my girlfriend of 5 years to go defacto on my sponsorship. I've also heard that sponsorships are taking longer to come through because of the volume of people applying. Does anyone know how long the wait is for it to come through? any help or pointers in the right direction is much appreciated.

Hi agillick

Western Australia is currently taking around 4 months to process state sponsorship applications. Here's a link to the State Migration Centre, which has a lot of information about the process, and contact details if you want to ask any further questions. Remember to make sure that your occupation is on WA's Occupations in Demand List, as it has to be on that list for you to be eligible to apply.

Here's a link to DIAC's information about subclass 176 visas; and here's a link to its fact sheet about supporting evidence for de facto relationships.

Hope that helps get you started!

Best regards
Susan

cheers for that Susan. I've checked and electricians are on the list. I've already gone through TRA to get my trade recognised in order to get my electrical licence. Do I still have to go through it again to get state sponsorship?

Hi agillick

No; it's all good :-) - you don't need to do your TRA again.

Cheers
Susan
