Default Visas granted whilst in Australia

Hi there, I was informed yesterday by a lady at DIMIA Perth, that DIMIA don't HAVE to let you know when to leave the country (if you are in it) so your PR visa can be granted.......I was just wondering if anyone else had heard this or been left high and dry because they weren't told? Seems abit odd to me.....

Actually DIMIA would give you a timeframe in which you would have to leave the country for them to make a decision , atleast by a date you would have to provide them your travel details of leaving the country and then while out of the country you woud be granted visa and you can evidence your passport and return within a certain date again
