Default Visa - When to Apply

Hi

I have a query, I'm doing a master degree and won't finish it until 2005
(July), should I apply for a visa now and (hopefully) get it so I can come
over qualified?

I've heard it can take up to two years to get the visa so that's why I
thought it would be a good idea to have a bash now.

Also, does anyone know what the job situation for MBAs is like over in
Sydney??

Cheers

Ron

Ron,

If you are planning to apply for a skilled visa while you are still studying, you should be aware that you will need to meet the basic requirements as well as pass the points test (if applicable) in order to be granted a permanent visa.

There is no work experience waiver for students who have yet to graduate, so the key point is whether you can show evidence that you meet the recent work experience criterion of the basic requirements.

Of course, there is the question of whether you can get a positive skills assessment as well...

You should consider downloading and reading the Skilled Migration Booklet 1119 from DIMIA's website.
http://dima.cardgate.net/General_Ski...ation/1119.pdf
And from there, determine which skills assessing authority is relevant to your existing academic qualification.

Do you qualify for a skilled visa at this moment?

It's less important than in the US. General demand for MBAs is
cyclical and moves with the economy.

It also depends on which business school issued the MBA and also what
other professional/technical skills you have, plus the quality of
experience on your CV.
