visa query ( 457)
can you apply for a visa ... then go on a holiday to Aussie and have your application completed whilst there?

I don't think it will be a problem for a 457 visa application. You need to inform DIAC though, so DIAC can inform u to leave OZ if grant letter is ready to be issued. Since offshore applicant has to be outside oz when visa grant is issued.

Re: visa query ( 457)
Hi!
We did exactly that....once we got the email saying that our 457 would be granted 28 days prior to employment start date we applied for a tourist e visa, informed our CO of the fact and flew to oz, we were here about 5 weeks as tourists and then 4 weeks before my work start date we got an email saying 457 was granted!
We had to inform our CO who put a note on our file so that immigration could see why we were coming in on a oneway ticket, but we did not have to leave Oz for the 457 to be issued. Honestly we never had a problem with it, immigration were lovely said welcome to Australia etc and we got to have 6 weeks holiday here to start off with.
Good luck!

So see that you have aligned both the timeframe....as DIAC is very unpredictable when they grant the 457 visa...

Re: visa query ( 457)
For the OP - be careful of the timeframe on the tourist visa you enter on. You may need a back-up plan in case the 457 isn't granted before it expires.
