Visa Knowledge Needed Urgently!!!!
I have made enquiries with various agents and come up with different answers. Can anybod help?
I am 47 (Too old for skills migration). My wife is 44( has no qualifications for skills migration)
My wife has a Brother, a Sister and a Stepmother all Australian Citizens.
(Age appears to discount family sponsorship)
Would it be possible to buy a business in Australia and work in that business?
Is there a minimum investment?
What are the rules and restrictions?
Would it be possible to visit on holiday and obtain work?
Would this have to be employer sponsorship?
What are the rules and restrictions?

As you have so many questions and your case does not look straight forward, contact an Agent they will give you free advice on how you could apply for a business Visa. Alan Collet - Go Matilda and George Lombard both use this Forum and are reliable.
Good luck

That's a tidy amount. I suggest you contact one of the immigration agents who give good advice to this board and check out privately the options you might have. I think it's possible you could get PR as an investor/ businessman, possibly through your wife if your (to me, young) age is a barrier.
Good luck, the dream goes on.

crabtree old pal, if you fall short of what's needed, my best wishes, we would be in the same boat for Aus. Have you considered NZ? (Our first choice anyway.)

Ask yourself why half the Kiwis are here in Oz and that will tell you
why they need migrants for NZ. It will also have bearing on how the
two countries compare...

You can't win.

For NZ, check out the options on www.immigration.govt.nz - I think with your funds you could put together a convincing business plan if you have reasonable business experience already. I think the route you could go would be Long Term Business Visa, converting to Entrepreneur after 2 years (which gives you PR). After 3 years as a PR holder you can get NZ citizenship and passport (which allows you to work in Australia too).
But getting to Australia on a business visa might be more direct!

NZ citizens can work in Australia but no longer are treated as
permanent residents unless they specifically apply for it (and qualify
under the normal rules).

Hi Tony
The 4 year Independent Executive Visa allows you to come to Australia and run your own business here. If successful (meeting certain criteria) you can apply for permanent residence after as little as 18 months, but more likely 2-3 years.
If you are going to apply for this visa you want to before the 1st of March 2003 as major changes are expected.
The amount of funds you need is normally $250,000 aud. You say you have slightly less than this. I am not sure if you mean that you can invest say $150,000 (ie less than $250,000) but you have other funds that you can also bring to Australia to buy a house etc. In short the $250,000 does not all have to invested in the business. It is a figure that takes into account also the amount of money likely to be needed to settle, buy a house etc. The amount that normally has to be in the business is $100,000. (a little less in gazetted areas).
It is also possible to qualify for the visa with less than $250,000 if you can show it is sufficient to still establish a business and yourself in Australia. For example you may have relatives in Australia who can help. In which case a good business plan together with assistance from family may allow say $200,000 to be enough.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Simon
That is useful as we do have family who would be willing to sponsor too.
The other option we would like to explore is Employer sponsorship.
I have contacted a number of Recruitment Agents but dont seem to be getting any response.
Have you any idea how we should approach this option?
Any suggestions for Employment Agent?
I am a financial Planner with UK qualification, prepared to study and gain the relevant Australian qualifications required.
Remember I am 47 yrs old so this rules out Skills Migration.
