Visa evidencing in Washington
Hi all,
I've been issued a pre-grant letter and am getting ready to go to
Washington. I'm on a pretty tight schedule so want to fly there and
get my passport done ‘while I wait'. I know the Washington embassy
say you can pick up your passports there, but is that after you've
mailed them or can you do a ‘while-you-wait' job/
Also, I am the primary applicant. Is it possible to get my wife's
passport evidenced with mine without her attending?
Thanks for all your replies.

Re: Visa evidencing in Washington
If it is Pre-grant, i believe there is some condition(s) included in the pregrant letter. Once you submit necessary paperwork specified in the pregrant your case officer probably would be able to issue visas. Regarding visa evidencing search this thread ...somewhere you should be able to get the reqd info.

I have a similar query: we may be getting Retirement visas via AHC London in the next few months but will be in the US over that period. Anyone know if we can get evidencing anywhere in the States under these circumstances?

Can't give you specifics for the AE in Washington, but for the AHC in Singapore, there's no 'while you wait' evidencing. It takes 5 working days.

Since I'm the primary applicant, there is a condition 8502 on my wife, which is pretty standard, and means she cannot travel to Australia before me. Since we're travelling together, that's not an issue.
I haven't heard about the ‘while-you-wait' job. But you can get more info here:
Phone: (202) 797–3000
Fax: (202) 797–3100
Counter hours:
Mon.-Fri. 9:00 -11:00 am
The Australian Government just introduced a toll-free immigration help line for North American residents, you can try that also.
Here is more info on that:
The Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs is operating a new service to assist clients from North America with queries on Australian immigration, visas and citizenship. The toll free number is (888) 990 8888. They’ll only give general visa related information through this number.
As for myself, I FEDEX-ed both our U.S. passports to the Australian Embassy in Washington DC, yesterday. After making copies, I included the original grant letter with the Case Officer's original signature, a prepaid U.S. Express Mail envelope with a completed label, and a cover letter, with the passports.
I'm expecting the passports back next week, with the visa evidence.

Re: Visa evidencing in Washington
I was in contact with the Washington DC office earlier this year via
email, and was told that I could get my visa evidenced in person at
their office. However you may want to call ahead and make sure that
they are open on the day/time that you plan on arriving.

Re: Visa evidencing in Washington
Hi Petecito,
If you plan to go there in person between the counter hours (9am - 11am
- earlier the better), then you would get your passport evidenced by 4pm
the same day. I think you should be able to evidence your wife passport
too, without her accompanying you to the consulate. Anyways, I would
suggest you to call their toll free number even before you plan to go
there in person. doesn't hurt to make a call.
check out http://austemb.org for further details.
earlier this week, I had sent my passport for evidencing via mail, they
require at least 5 working days if sent through mail, so hoping to get
them on monday (fingers' crossed)

Let me know if you got your passport back with the visa evidence, from the Australian Embassy in Washington DC? If so, how long did it take?
I sent mine by FEDEX and it was received by the Australian Embassy in Washington DC at 9:30 AM on September 11, 2003. More than 5 days have already past, and nothing yet.
I called the toll free number and they said, it can take up to 2 weeks. So, I'll wait until the end of next week, and see what happens.
I do understand that they were closed yesterday and today, due to Hurricane Isabel, as was the rest of the Federal Government in the DC area. So, that might have caused some delays.
Thanks,

You're asking these questions in the wrong thread.
I already answered these in my original thread: "Visas Granted!!!!!!"
Please respect the thread name when asking questions, or you get people confused, and looking for the wrong stuff at the wrong place.
Thanks,
sk686
