VETASSESS - changing ASCO occupation.
My partner, Emma's, VETASSESS on-line application just turned positive - which is great news.
However, we are just hoping that they changed her occupation though - we applied on-line as an Industrial Relations Officer, but after re-reading through the ASCO discovered that Community Worker was much more suitable to be assessed as.
We e-mailed VETASSESS the on the day that we applied on-line and requested that the occupation to be assessed was changed, but never got a reply.
So, when we parcelled up the certs we wrote a cover letter explaining that we would like the occupation assessed as Community Worker and not what was on the on-line application. On the print out of the application that we sent we also drew a line through the Industrial Relation and ACO code and wrote on Community Worker.
The on-line application now says positive, but still says Industrial Relations. We don't know if they will send out a positive letter for Industrial Relations and have ignored our request , or if they just can't change the on-line occupation and we will indeed get a pass letter for Community Worker.
I shouldn't think there would be a problem as the VETASSESS literature does state that you can apply for change of occupation after assessment for a small fee ( $27 I think it was ) - and we had requested the change before they started processing.
Has anyone else had experience of changing their occupation with VETASSESS either during, or after assessment?
We just need a positive 60 points form IEAUST mow for my CDR - that was sent off about three weeks ago, fingers crossed. If that comes back with only 40 points then it's game over.
Catch you later.....

Re: VETASSESS - changing ASCO occupation.
Hi
There is no need to change the ASCO code as the experience requirement is 2 years skilled experience, in the previous 3 year period, in ANY skilled occupation on the SOL. There is no "closely related" requirement between your nominated occupation and recent work experience as there is for a nominated occupation for 60 points where relevancy can determine whether 5 or 10 points be awarded for having 3 years skilled experience in the previous 4 year period.
So it is only a cosmetic change you are seeking, trying to get your nominated occupation to exactly match your recent work experience. This principle is the same whether you are nominating a VETASSESS 40 or 50 point occupation as the main applicant or for spouse points.
Regards
Tony

Re: VETASSESS - changing ASCO occupation.
which really confirms that the Vetassess process is only an assessment of educational attainment, diploma or degree, and that the occupations are really only notional as far as the vetassess process goes.
It's a convoluted way of doing it though :-)

Re: VETASSESS - changing ASCO occupation.
Thanks folks - I thought that may be the case when I re-read through booklet 6.
The on-line assessment has been positive for almost a week now, but nothing through the post yet.
My CDR for IEAUST was received 4 weeks ago - I will give them another week then maybe chase it up. We need to get our application in to DIMIA soon, before I turn 30.
Thanks.

Hi
We just had a similar situation and after speaking to VETASSESS, all we did was write a letter to them with our file no on and the new code we wanted, enclosed $27 and we had a new one within 2 weeks, with the new code on it.
good luck

but, as per welshtony's comments, there is never actually a need to change it to reflect your recent work experience as the vetassess assesssment is unconnected to you RWE.

Re: VETASSESS - changing ASCO occupation.
We had to change ours cos we were originally going for skilled independant, but then we got Government sponsorship under a different code, and so needed a new one, so it matched the letter from the government, enabling us to qualify for STNI.

Re: VETASSESS - changing ASCO occupation.
oh, ok. It seem a bit weird really, needing to get it changed to reflect an occupation that may not have even had specific qualifications in. The whole Vetassess thing is enveloped in an apparently complicated system to tell you one thing, which is 'do you have a diploma or a degree in something, anything.........or don't you?'
It's a complicated way of doing a straightforward thing....IMHO
