Default An update fron two years ago

Three years ago last week I received my Australian permanent resident
visa. How times flies!

I'm an American with no desire to return to the States except to visit
family and friends. Believe me, once you're gone for a while it's hard
to imagine living with all the anxieties and uncertainties Americans
have about the future.

The best part of living in Australia is the people. Second best part is
the weather and overall quality of life. A third benefit is the
proximity to Asia. I've been to China three times since I've been here
and plan to go back at Christmas. I've also been to Singapore and Bali
for long weekends on really cheap roundtrip fares--about $500 US.

The migration process was long and tedious; I applied not long before
the war in Iraq which delayed the process considerably. Tne wait, was
in fact, one of the most trying periods of my life--it's hard to live
so long in suspense. For all you who are in the process, just hang in
there, it's worth the wait. For those who've made it, congratulations
and all the best to you here Down Under.

Cheers

Hi there

Sounds like you're enjoying life in Adelaide we're hoping to be there soon - police checks & meds sent in last week. Just needto send the additional info requested (earlier posting). We needto go out to Cape Town for a few months before we head for Oz permanently - want to sell our house there to raise money for a house in Adelaide area - but we plan to come for atrip to recce properties - any advice on areas to look/avoid would be much appreciated.

You're right it does feel like a long time i hope it's worth it..................

You'll like Adelaide. It's a lovely city and the cost of living is
quite reasonable. The job situation is good, the food and wine are
fantastic, and you can get anywhere within about 25 minutes. The only
downsides are that it's a bit remote and it can sometimes have a
certain small-city small-mindedness.

The city just launched a new marketing campaign called "You Are Here,"
so everywhere there are banners proclaiming, well, that we are here.
That's been the subject of quite a bit a derision because, well, of
course we're here. We're not sure what the aim of that was, but at
least all those who thought they were in Sydney have now been informed
otherwise.

One major benefit of living in Adelaide, though, is that it strongly
supports the arts and there's an amazing array of cultural events to go
to. I'm sure you'll love it. Hope all goes well for you as you go
through the final stages of getting here.
