Is a university degree required for Skilled Independent Immigration (forms are not clear).
I'm currently filling the form for Skilled independent migration, but
I find it confusing!
NOWHERE in Part J, "required documentation" does it say anything about
having to provide anything remotly related to academic documents such
as diplomas or transcripts.
However, in the 'Qualifications' section, the 'basic requirements'
indicates that: "You must have post-secondary (such as university or
trade) qualifications (in a small number of occupations substantial
relevant work experience may be acceptable) and your skills must have
been assessed by the relevant assessing authority as suitable for your
nominated occupation."
So, "post secondary qualifications" are either University
qualifications (diplomas I guess) or trade qualifications. What are
'trade qualifications'? And are my 'skills' my 'qualifications'? I
don't understand.
Also, nowhere is it described which occupations have work experience
considered 'acceptable'
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

See Form 47SK (07/02 design, green-ish coloured), page 1, right column, top paragraph, second sentence. You are required to provide everything you sent to the relevant skills assessing authority earlier on. This would include all relevant academic documents etc.

Have you downloaded the Skilled Migration Booklet 6 (1119) from the DIMIA website? You'll need to start there first. If you are still having trouble with it, you should consider hiring a migration agent to assist you.

You'll have to work in an occupation that is on the Skilled Occupations List, which is given in the Skilled Migration Booklet 6, and can also be viewed here: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/sol.htm
Seems to me you have to get acquainted with the process proper. Read the DIMIA website: http://www.immi.gov.au/ and read the process for applying for a permanent visa there, supposing that's what you want to do. Generally, for a skilled independent visa (there are other types of permanent visas available), you'll need to get your skills assessed before you even look at Form 47SK. And you should always refer to Booklet 1119 when looking at Form 47SK. Alternatively, like I mentioned earlier, hire an agent.

Have you got your skills assessed by an Australian assessing body yet?
If so, which one? If not, then it's too soon to be thinking about
applying to migrate.

Trade qualifications are (for example) city and guilds in motor vehicle
studies or suchlike.
