Default UK CitizenRetirement Visa for Oz?

Hi,
Is there a visa available for retired UK citizens who would like to spend a substantial part of the year living in Oz, say up to 6 months? Or even maybe more.

There is a visa finder on the DIBP site - http://www.immi.gov.au/Pages/Welcome.aspx

Not sure there is one that will fit what you are describing though

Scouse and I were planning to do it the other way, visa for me for 6/12 months for UK and spend the rest of the time in Oz. Proved waaay too difficult and the visa was only one of our problems. Tax status/payment of allocated pensions was the main bugbear - a financial nightmare. So it's Blighty for good, for us.

Best of luck in finding a solution for you

I think it'd be well worth your while having an initial consultation with a MARA agent, to talk about what you'd like to achieve and get advice on any options that might work for you? It might save you a lot of running around trying to get bits and pieces of info - if there's a way to achieve what you want, they're the ones who'll know. There are a few whose names come up regularly on BE and have loads of recommendations from members, maybe try 'MARA agent' in the search function.

You could get a tourist visa to spend up to six months a year in Oz.

Although if you wanted to keep coming maybe go for 4 to 5 months in Oz and the rest in UK. Keeps tax status etc clear and less likely to be challenged by immigration.

You would still get reciprocal medicare and keep all rights in UK.

You can even buy property in Oz although I think you still have to buy land and build or buy a brand new designated home, either way check it out with FIRB. You could still let it out when not here too.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's easy enough to spend up to 6 months a year on a tourist visa with no hassles..
