Re: Tying Up Loose Ends?
A few off the top of my head and obviously not all count for all people
- Access to post you may of forgotten - mate to forward or international redirect
- Access to UKBank account, easily, for those relatives determined to send UK cheques to Aus for Childrens' Birthdays, for 10 pounds!!! (Check you can post them direct to account if required)
- P85, Sign off from Inland Revenue check Inland Revenue Website, if submitting SA, make sure you have all relevant details of last/current year, eg P45, P60 etc. For P11d information, if leaving part year get copies of last details from employer
- End Child support - you will get a demand for repayment, including tax credits if overpaid.
- throw away what you are sure you do not want now while you are at 'home', pack the rest, you can always throw it away here. But if you miss it now you might miss it later, I miss the silly bits.
- Make sure you have copies of those important documents, after all we have all had to have so many certified copies made, what harm to leave a few with a family member or friend. You never know when they might be required.
- if required arrange a signatory for bank account at home, we did this and arranged legal representives for ourselves, because of family commitments we didn't want to have to fly home in a panic to sort anything out - we have joint signatories to act on our behalf
-check pension policies etc, insurance, for validity, especially if emigrating, don't assume you are covered-check
-if you have children or a medical history that may require detailed information for yourself, compose the history now, (Childen require medical immunisation history/certificate to start school)
-update diary with all relevant friends and relatives addresses/emails
- ensure driving licence is up todate, get copies of current car insurance details, including no claims bonus details - with new insurance here you may get reduced cost if you can prove previous no claims level. It was awful getting information after the event!!
- Arrange easy access to email contact in orginal country for the things you have forgotten!!!
I am a complete worry wort!!!!!
these are my initial thoughts - I am sure many can be added, then I will go oh flip forgot that!!!
