Two visas at the same time
Hi. I have a question regarding visa to Australia. I plan to apply for
a permanent visa as soon as possible. However, this process might take
12-15 months to complete.
I have plans to take a Master's degree in Australia start of 2004. Can
I apply for a student visa if my permanent visa has not come through
yet?
Can I have two visa applications at the same time?
If not, how to handle this?
Of course I can wait and see if I get my permanent visa, but that is
no good solution.
Best regards

It is no problem to have a combination of visa applications as you suggest. Just remember that if your migrant visa is granted to you first, that you must withdraw the student visa application (as it will not be needed and there wll be risk of its grant ceasing the migrant visa).

Re: Two visas at the same time
Hi Per,
Steven is right to suggest that you would need to balance your visa options
carefully; I would add that as a Norwegian you could always plan to arrive
in Australia and apply for a student visa onshore, which effectively means
that you could delay making a decision on the student visa in case the
permanent visa did come through.
It's of interest that since 1 November UK citizens have held "level 2"
classifications which effectively requires them to apply offshore.
It may be that these processing levels change again prior to 1994, so you
would need to consider the issues again next year.

Re: Two visas at the same time
Actually, I did just that
I applied for a PR visa on october 2001 and on august 2002 for a
student visa because I want to start a master degree on march 2003.
On october of this year I was asked to withdraw my student visa
application because the PR visa application was sucessful.
