I'm just wondering what companies/industries everyone works for that allows them to take vacation with apparent open-ended return dates?

No, I don't think so as the maximum holiday most people have is 20 days which generally wouldn't cause any issues. It was a valid question to get a better understanding of the reasons for the original question.

There can be so many personal reasons someone might want to travel for long time. If you have been working with a company for long time, companies are willing to consider unpaid leave over and above 20 days paid leaves.

Yes that's true. although looking at your other posts you are now in the US with the intention of working and are waiting for Australian citizenship to get an E3 visa.

Is that any relevant to the topic here? Please don't jump to the conclusions about intentions.

I've not jumped to any conclusions; the obvious relevance is that what you said in the original post does not appear to be correct. You said you wanted to return to your home country to be with your spouse when in fact you are in the US on a dependent visa.

You do realize that things and plans changes in life, right?

Yes indeed. Sorry, did I 'jump' to any incorrect conclusions then about you being in the US and planning to work?

Actually yes, that was incorrect conclusion; my bad that after coming to US, came to know about this new kind of visa for Australians and got a little extra excited about possibility to work here.

Well it wasn't really a conclusion rather just re-quoting what you said about having an interview for a job in US.

Sounds like you're stuck having to come back to Australia and to find a job. That's bad luck if you would prefer to be in US.

We will eventually be coming back once my spouse's PR gets approved for Australia. but now with more information about US visas, there are other kind of company transfer visas also available, which doesn't require person to be an Australian.
