Default Temporary VISA whilst PR is in progress

I am in a sticky situation and would welcome some advice.

I have a 136 non-MODL visa application in progress (ack'd August 1st - expect to be granted 12-14 months later - so this time 2007 maybe).

My present company has granted me Voluntary Redundancy to leave at the end of December and it is almost too good to pass up.

I went to the Australia Expo on Friday and was talking to some companies about 457 Employer Sponsored Temporary VISA's.

My question is basically, if I were to get a job in Oz and get a 457 VISA, once my 136 is granted, could I return to the UK and get the VISA completed without any problems. I know that I would have to get my meds and police checks completed before I left but I would have to do that anyway for the 457 visa.

Has anyone done this themselves or is there anything glaringly obvious that would stop me from doing this?

Many thanks

IanJakeCharlieDaddy.

457 is a risky option as it's not permanent residence and things don't always work out. Read post #7 on this: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=399509

If an employer really wants to offer you a job, then they could sponsor you for immediate migration. There are still some requirements that employer and employee must meet, but it's a safer and simpler option if it can work.
