Temp Res Visa or Permanent Visa

Temp Res Visa or Permanent Visa
Hello all,
This is our 1st posting to this site and would like some advice. We are in the process of looking at moving to Aus, possibly SA or Tas.
We have friends in SA and relatives in Tas.
I am a nurse and hubby is a hosiery mechanic.
We know that I should find employment as a nurse, but there will not be much call for hosiery mechanics over there.
Now which type of visa do we come over on?
Temporary Res visa, and then if after a year we decide Aus is definitely for us apply for a permanent visa?
Or permanent visa to start with?
If we were only temporary residents would we be able to rent only?
Thanks

Re: Temp Res Visa or Permanent Visa
Hi Primrose,
As a nurse you can certainly get an agency sponsorship for a temporary visa
for up to four years, or permanent residence in your own right within six
months. The choice is yours. If both under 31, you may want to go for a
Working Holiday Visa.
For the rules on purchase of property, go to www.firb.gov.au

Re: Temp Res Visa or Permanent Visa
Thanks George,
We are both 40-44yrs.
We will also be taking our 2 children, therefore the working holiday visa ia not applicable.

Re: Temp Res Visa or Permanent Visa
If you are both in the 40-44 age bracket, then you don't have time to
waste in sorting our your PR if you want to live in Australia - an age
bar takes effect once you turn 45.
If you are a nurse you should have a good chance of meeting the general
skilled pass mark as long as you are currently in employment and have
been over the last few years. If you need state sponsorship, then I'm
sure both SA and Tas would be able to help.

If you haven't been in the workforce recently then the options are going
back to work for 6 months and applying for Skill Matching after that, or
going for an employer nominated permanent visa.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time researching the DIMIA website, or
alternatively hire an agent.
