Re: Teacher Assessment / 175 Visa Application
I just contacted a couple of schools to say I would be visiting the area and asked about possible vacancies...sent off my CV. They asked me to pop in when over. Had a good chat when there and looked around the school and chatted with staff.
I did a formal interview (via Skype which was interesting!!) once a position opened up and got the job.
All seemed to happen quite quickly really.
If you have a strong CV then you stand a good chance of landing a job.

I arrive in April...looking forward to it. Going to Sunshine Coast. Was there last year for a few weeks (stayed at Demented Ferrets place...if anyone is looking for good accommodation!)
The Sype interview was not too bad. The time delay was a little offputting and the connection dropped a couple of times. Plus with the time difference it meant an early morning interview. Good experience though.

I'm science and I got offered 2 jobs before I came over (both I had telephone interviews for, one late night and one early morning).
Be aware though that there is a reason these schools are recruiting from so far away. I left the school I ended up working for after 5 months, with a great sense of relief. Once out here it is much easier to get a decent job (at least I think my new job is decent, I start today so we shall see)
Regarding the visas, you get 12 months from the date of your Meds or Police checks (whichever is the earlier) to enter Australia for the first time ad validate. You can then turn around and leave straight away if you want. You have to move within 5 years of visa grant, the PR visa allow you to stay in Oz indefinitely but only work as an entry visa for 5 years.

Re: Teacher Assessment / 175 Visa Application
I suppose it's like most jobs/companies...be careful where you go. Same in the UK too. But, then again, from what I have read on some forum posts some people will take any job to get to Australia and then find something more permanent once there. It's a difficult time for anyone moving. Leaving the security of what you know is difficult. Suppose it's also down to the personality of the individual and what preconceptions they have of a job (UK or Aus)
hereshoping....why did you leave? Bad school or not happy with the role?

Not all of them. If research is done then decent schools can be found. I managed to secure a job in one of the best in Queensland. Even so, nothing is guaranteed and who knows what will happen.

You're right of course, not all schools recruiting from overseas are bad- but a large proportion are. The second school that offered me a job was a very good school- but the role was part time and wouldn't have allowed for supply to bring up my pay as it was every afternoon.

Re: Teacher Assessment / 175 Visa Application
I am a Primary School Teacher who hopefully will soon hear about my skills assessment result, I have booked my IELTS exam for next month as I lose out on 10 points because of my elderly age of 31 lol
What I'm asking is...I have gone through the 175 online visa application. For parts which require detail, i have put 'bla bla bla' to enable me to go right through the application, i did this because I was hoping to come across the section which outlined what exactly my boss (principal of my school) and my character referee needed to include in the references required. I hoped I'd come across an outline of subheadings to give them guidelines when writing these references. Unfortunately i got all the way to the payment page (end of the application) and did not find this anywhere....could you please advise? I want to have all of these things in place, so all being well i get a positive IELTS result, i can then submit my application straight away....
Hope someone can help,
thanks,
Jen xo
