Student to PR - Is this the right move ???
Hello all
I was planning on getting my skills assessed as a painter & decorator, then the TRA decided they would remove pathway D, well what can I say....
Like many other people I have decided to opt for the study option, and hopefully gain PR at the end of it all.
I thought I'd take advantage of this and maybe have a career change. I've been thinking of doing a diploma in IT.
Has anybody done a diploma in IT then gained PR using it?
If not, what's the best option?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I wouldn't rush into anything just yet. I think you should wait a while and see what the TRA do first.
Probably would be a good idea to speak to a MIA registered agent about things.

Thanks for the reply Wendy.
I think my frustrations are getting the better of me, and the Brisbane sun is calling...lol
I did want to go back into education and change career when I got to Oz, but at the PR rate, not the international rate.
Although it's far more expensive. It may be the motivation I need to do so, and be worth it in the long run.
can you recommend a good agent?

Is it Brisbane you are looking at? We have a great lady we deal with from www.studyinaustralia.com.au her name is Riborg. We met her at a exhibition at the beginning of the year and she has been the best help ever!!! They can get you a study placement and get someone to help with the visa process.

The best advice I can give you is don't do an IT diploma unless you've got an eligible sponsor.
We don't specialise in student visas but are able to advise about study strategies for PR and also able to refer you to a reliable education agent.

Dear PB,
Yes of course you can sweetie. Go right ahead. Which "not" was troubling you? My answers would be either "not enough points" or "life's too short" depending on the question.
Cheers,

Brisbane is my destination, thanks for that Brockies, I'll look into that. I may call on you for more info.
George by "eligible sponsor" do you mean employment (job) sponsor, or family member, Australian citizen etc....?

If I keep answering you one question at a time you might have learnt enough by 2020 to migrate. Easiest if you read through the DIAC website carefully to see what visas are available, or talk to an agent.

Can pathway E be used in situations like these where there is no formal qualifications but enough work experience?? If so, this would involve contacting an RTO and get assessed?
Thanks in advance.

Best to raise that on the MIA forum since I'm not sure it's fair to raise such expectations publicly. As you know, given the DIAC roadshow in June and the PAMS as printed, it seems that with Pathway E you'll only be able to claim work experience after the qualification.
