Smile Student to PR - GOT IT!!!

Hooray! Got the visa! After 4 years of study and two visa applications, I've got it! What a relief and how exciting!

Timeline;

2001 - Arrived in Australia on a Working Holiday Visa
2002 - Extended the WHV to a 6 month Tourist Visa in New Zealand
2003 - Got a student visa (London) and returned to Brisbane to start studying
2005 - Started collecting evidence for the visa application (Skill Assessment, PCC etc)
2007 - Finished degree (April) and submitted a 880 application
2007 - Submitted a new post-sept 885 application to avoid the $100K investment for the extra 5 points and took the IELTS test!

14th September - Application submitted online
17th October - Final details requested (Form 80)
29th October - Visa granted!!

That's only 45 days! Woohoo!

Good luck to all still waiting!

Congratulations. As it seem you've already clocked up 3 years in Australia legally, you should be eligible for citizenship in 1 year's time. The new rules actually work in your favour.

Yes, thanks JAJ - I seem to have been lucky with a number of things with regard to my visa application! The new changes in September benefitted me (using the extra points from the IELTS to avoid the investment!) and the changes to Citizenship are also in my favour! This time next year I'll be cramming for the exam!

Thanks to all for your congratulations, I'll be off to the DIAC office in Brisbane tomorrow for the sticker!

Thanks to all for the congratulations and also all the help people on this forum have given. George Lombard helped me out a couple of times with this complicated area and JAJ, Tony C and Alan Collett all chipped in with valuable advice. This forum and the combined knowledge and expertise here is an amazing resourse and I am very grateful for it!

Good luck to all those still on the journey to Aus!
