STNI 137 - leaving within first 2yrs
I have an aquaintance who is living in Melbourne on a state sponsored STNI 137. She is wanting to return home in April. Her first year anniversary will be on 5 March 2006.
What will happen to her visa? Will it become null and void or will she still be able to return to Australia within the next 4 years (5yr validity on original visa).
Is the fact that it is a state-sponsored visa going to be a problem?
Any advice would be appreciated.

STNI is a permanent visa so remains in effect like any other (form 968i has the details). However she ought to stay in contact with the state migration department that sponsored her for STNI.

While we are on the subject, I have another 2 question
when does the 2 years start from, is it the date your STNI visa is granted or is it from when you arrived in Aus as we have already done over a year here and I was wondering if that counts towards it.
2. what if you split up within the 2 years? can the other person move to another state as long as the main applicant remains in the sponsoring region?
