to get a company to sponsor you , do you need to have qulifications in that specific area , i am aware of the $151,000 plus wage which waivers this requirement but unsure if you need specific qualifications, if less than this?

There's the 457 visa and the ENS visa - both have different rules.
The RSMS visa also has different rules but Melbourne is generally not eligible.
If this is a serious job offer you should get some professional assistance.
