Spent conviction on citizenship application
Hi guys n gals
We're (finally) looking at the documentation to apply for citizenship for Australia.
The application asks for spent convictions to be included. My wife had a drink driving ban approx 25 years ago and this is deemed to be 'declarable'.The problem is she cant remember any details about it....even remember what year it happened so how we can give all 'relevant information' about it i'm not sure.
Plus we cant remember if we included the conviction on our visa application so we could have contradictory information floating about....hmmmmm.
I know its hardly crime of the century, more of a pain in the ass,but not sure what to do now.....declare not remembering/knowing much info about the 'offence' ( the admission would read something like "i got a drink driving ban for 12 months and a fine in about 1989-ish) or just not mention it
Anyone else had a similar issue? Opinions/advise would be nice ( especially someone from the Aus immigration authority :-) )
regards
Lee

All she needs to put is what she can remember - she can even add a note to say she can remember less now than when she did the visa application! It won't affect the grant of citizenship, all she needs to do is be honest

Perhaps do a Subject Access request to the local police force or court service concerned, it may give the details required.

Possible, but a drink driving ban in those days at least was usually deleted from PNC when it expired, so Subject Access would come back clean, unless its one that slipped through the cracks.

Did you provide penal clearance certificates when you applied for your visa?

Re: Spent conviction on citizenship application
It quite probably wouldn't have been on there - once a driving ban falls off NC (certainly a driving ban from that time) it falls off the printout, unless there were other offences dealt with at the same time. It would only appear as a 'trace' while the ban was in effect
