South Australia Nursing
Looking into South Australia to settle initially under their STNI as this would allow me a house for 3 months on arrival – seems to save a lot of hassle.
I am a mental health trained nurse who specialises in substance misuse (mainly alcohol).
Does anyone have experience of nursing in SA?
Current rates of pay?
I would be very grateful for any advice.

Hello Peter
I am also a Mental Health Nurse specialised in substance misuse again mainly alcohol. I am looking to emigrate to Melbourne. When I was there I was advised salaries are approximately $60,000 ausd which is above average salary. Also if you have a postgraduate degree which I complete in June/July you will then receive an additional $60 ausd per week. Doesnt sound much but it soon mounts up. Nurses can also receive a tax incentive up to 30% in some cases. The hospital I went to in Frankston discussed these issues with me.
As for South Australia I dont know but I also have relatives there too so will explore more a bit later down the track.
The emigration exhibition at sandown park ascot is on 19-21 march and they have reps from all the states and alot of health agencies it may be worth going there for more up to date info.
Any queries drop us a line.

Re: South Australia Nursing
hi folks
To answer your questions I went to Frankston hospital and was interviewed by personnel. Salary is from 45-60k depending on level 1. or level 2 grade nurse. I am a G grade 12 years experience and thats what they advised me. Have I been misinformed?
My cousin is also the equivalent of a district nurse earning 58k plus car.
The exhibition is being held at Sandown Park 19-21st march details are with outbound publishers Australia news for those who subscribe.
Hope this helps...

This is the link to the nurses 2003 pay award for New South Wales. It's a year old and doesn't cover Victoria or South Australia, but I can't imagine there will be much of a difference and it may be helpful:

Re: South Australia Nursing
You do not need to hold an STNI visa to access the settlement assistance
package from South Australia. People arriving in SA with regular 136,
138 etc visas are also eligible.
