Skills Assessment Help!
We are currently wading through booklets etc. in preperation for our visa application. My partner is a qualified Carpenter & Joiner and also a Mechanical Engineer, he has been doing the Engineering for the last 7 years, can he lodge the application as a carpenter or does it have to be he current career. Also where do we go to get the skills assessed????
Any help would be much appreciated (very frustrated visa applicationees!!)

Also, you may want to double check the SOL (list of occupations) to verify your partners profession against acceptable professions for skilled immigration into Oz. I think you will find that carpenter is listed within major group 4 of the SOL. As for mechanical engineer, you may want to take a look for yourself at:

Hope this helps...

Re: Skills Assessment Help!
Hi Sally,
Some agents still provide free initial advice despite what
liveinaustralia.com might charge. If you send me a cv or complete the
assessment form on my website I'll happily give you an indication of what
might work best for you.
Cheers

If the original poster meets IEAUST requirements, it would be possible
to go that way for skill assessment too. Although having a skill
assessment in a non-related occupation can mean you are limited to 5
points for work experience.

Not quite - the basic requirement for offshore skilled migration depends
on a combination of nominated occupation and visa subclass and may
differ from that above.

You can apply with a nominated occupation of your choice, provided you
meet the skill assessment requirements.
Work experience does not have to be in the same skilled occupation as
the nominated occupation, although you may get more points if it is.

To the original poster, this form has contact details of the skill
assessing authorities.
