I am a software engineer having about 4 years of experience in different
technologies,applications and platforms.

Java Based : 14 months AS 400 Midrange : 26 months Oracle : 8 months

I am in the process of getting my skills assessed and have difficulties choosing the right
ASCO code and occupation.

1. The Skilled Occupation List has the occupation " Information Technology Officer -
Computing Professionals(not elsewhere classified) " the ASCO code being 2231-79.

2. The Migration Occupations in Demand List(MODL) has the following: Computer
Professionals in the following specialisations: Oracle, SQL Server, Java, Java Script,
C++, Cisco Certified Professionals (CCPs), Advanced Web Design, E-Commerce, SAP,
PeopleSoft (enterprise based multiple applications)

ASCO Code being : 2231(part)

Which one should I choose?

I am sure one of you must have gone through this before. Can I send a mail to
ACS(Austaralian Computer Society) which does the assessment seeking clarification? or Is
there any other agency which will help me with this?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I don't have any experience that you have. However I have experience in ABAP4, VB and VFP.
So I chose ASCO code for application programmer. But when ACS sent me the result, they
gave me another ASCO code for system engineer. I guess you can choose the closest ACSO
code to your experience and ACS will decide what code you are entitled for. If your work
is in programming, choose the one for application programmer or system engineer. And don't
forget to send in your boss's reference letter and training certificates(if any).

Hope this helps.

Ken
