Skilled VS Skilled Sponsored

Hi Everybody,
I am about to sent my application to the Australian Ambassy for permanent residency, but I
have a last minute doubt : Is it more easy to obtain a Visa under the Sponsored Skilled
category (my wife's brother lives in Sydney) with assurance of support , or simply under
the Skilled category. I would think that the more guarantee you give , the more chances
you have , but a friend on mine told me that It was not true and that I should use the
simpler solution of Skilled migration as they process such files more rapidly...
Any advice appreciated,
Bruno.
PS : I am french and applying as an IT Manager in Sydney.

The differences between sponsored skilled and skilled independent are:
- you do get 15 extra points under sponsored skilled
- but you also have to have an Assurance of Support lodged.
I don't believe it makes any difference to the time taken to process your application (eg
having 125 points rather than 110 doesn't put you at the top of the queue).
It's up to you to decide which is better for you.

Unfortunately your sibling does not live in the Designated Area, otherwise you will not be
points tested. According to the General Skilled Migration booklet I bought some time ago,
you will have greater chance of success if you are being sponsored. So, I guess being
sponsored is the way to go.
