Skilled stream and RPL. Is this correct?
Just got an email from an immigration attorney we were considering using to
get us thru the RPL process. I have 6 years in IT (3 of 6 as IT Director).
Prior to 97 I was employed as a paramedic supervisor for 8 years. What has
me confused is the bit about 9 total years in IT. Is that correct? Any input
would be appreciated.

You would require at least 6 years of Computing employment experience (which
you appear to be able to meet) under the ACS's Recognition of Prior Learning
path (see www.acs.org.au) but you would also require for migration purposes,
an additional 3 years of skilled occupation listed employment experience in
the period of four years (in Computing) immediately preceding date of a 136
visa application to potentially attain maximum point allocation (see
below) - this 3 additional years of experience must not be included in the
ACS (RPL) assessment. Thus, at least 9 years of full time
Computing/Information Technology employment experience is required, which
you appear not to have at present
Your provisional point test score may therefore read
SKILL: 0, not 60 (given you would possess no 'recent' employment i.e.
12 months in the period of 18 months employment
immediately preceding date of 136 application (again, this experience
must be additional to that relied upon for RPL assessment)
AGE: 25 (between 30-34 at time of visa application)
ENGLISH: 20
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE: 0, not 10 (if employed in same or closely related
to ACS assessed I.T. occupation for 36 months in the period of 48 months
immediately before date of visa application - however 10 points only
available for same reason given above)

Re: Skilled stream and RPL. Is this correct?
Dear FS,
Having no recent work experience is a bit of a show stopper. The current
requirement for ACS is six years of work experience in IT at a professional
level and DIMIA will accept the same period for required work experience
(and since 31 July agents ought to have been aware of this but it only
became indisputable at a seminar we held on 3 September when acknowledged by
DIMIA).
But the basic DIMIA requirement for you will be having 12 months relevant
work experience in any skilled occupation in the 18 months before applying;
given your age, you may also need the 10 points for having specific work
experience in three of the four years before applying.
Cheers
