Skilled Independent Visa Statistics
Hi All; I am refering to the "Skilled Migration" section of DIMA's "Population Flows
2001" report. In figure Fig. 2-6 it is reported
(http://www.dima.gov.au/statistics/pu...chapter2_2.pdf) that
Independent Visa Grants by Country of Birth 2000-01
India 14%
U.K. 14%
V. Africa 13% PRC (?) 10% Indonesia 6% Malaysia 5% Singapore 3% Fiji 3% HKSAR 3%
Pakistan 3% Other 25%
1. Are the Visa grants "linearly related" with the number of Visa applications?
2. What I understand from that figure is that great majority of the Visas are granted
to "Commonwealth" Country citizens and neighbouring countries of Australia. Is
that a coinsidence or is there a Logic behind that?
3. Does any one know which countries are meant my "PRC" and "HKSAR"?
4. Does anyone know a link for an Offical web site, which explains the Logic of
Allocation of Visa quotas to different DIMA Offices in the World?
Regards Ahmet

PRC = Peoples Republic of China
HKSAR = Hong Kong Special Adminsitrative Region. This is part of China now but people
from HK have a special passport, either Chinese or the British National (Overseas)
passport which is much easier to travel on than a standard Chinese passport as it
carries a right of abode in HK. Most countries make a distinction between China
proper and China (HKSAR).
