Settling in Australia
Hi BE... how are you all...
Im new to this so please forgive my ignorance.
Im 28 and a QA Test Analyst and my wife is 30 and a Helpdesk Analyst.
We are thinking of applying for australian citizenship...can anyone recomend any good agenciesand their charges..also how many points would we need, as i know that the law re points is changing soon...
Also would we be better doing the TRA forms ourselves or getting the agent to do them. where do we get the forms from? More to the point do we need TRA forms or ACS forms?
Firstly we are due to come to Australia in november for 4 weeks...the purpose of our journey is to find as much as we can about australia...see as much as we can.
We aim to end up staying in preferably Sydney or Melbourne but will stay wherever the work is. if we get citizenship.
Please can any one tell us how best to plan our trip, we only have four weeks and we want to do as much sight seeing as possible spending enough time in our more than likely final destinations.
Also for four weeks...how much is this likely to cost at that time of the year... we dont need to stay at the ritz and we dont wanna be staying in a 1 star motel either...
any help/comments/suggestions would be great.
Many Thanks

Types of visa
Rules and regulations
How to appoint an agent
What assessments you'll need
If you job is on SOL or MODL list (this one's important)
I would suggest you contact an agent once you've done some research of your own.
You will need to be assessed by the ACS as your skills come under IT.
Have a look on here for Peter Chiam of Ptlabs. MY O/H is an IT Manager and we had to do Proof of Prior Learning as his degree was not in IT. Peter is a specialist in IT submissions and you can engage him for just the ACS, just the visa or both.
He really is fantastic. There is no way we would be where we are at this stage without him.
Any more questions just contact me.

Thanks for the reply
How much is the cost of the application? and does that include any agent fees...Other than Peter are there any other "good" agents around.

The other agents here I wouldn't like to comment on as Ihave had no dealings wit them. From everything I've read they all appear to do a sterling job.
Your agents fee will not include the ACS fee, the visa application fee, police checks, medidcals, etc.

Re: Settling in Australia
We are moving to Queensland in 3 weeks. When I started the whole process we done alot of research into everything. Firstly we contacted migrationexpert.com and paid them a fee of approx £175 ( if my memory serves me right). This was purely to obtain the paperwork to apply for our visa. Once we had received this I then had to apply to the TRA to get my trade recognised which cost £150. Then when my trade had been recognised I could then apply for our visas. This is most important to get your trade recognised as you need this approval to apply for a visa. The cost of the visa application cost approx £700. Then you will be contacted near the end of the process to get police checks and medicals done. The police checks were £10 each for everyone over 16, then the medicals cost £690 ( this is for a family of 4). Before you start to do anything check you occupation is on the MODL. I hope this helps and good luck!
