Sending Gifts back to the UK
Thinking ahead for next year (bithdays & Christmas etc) - how do people send presents back to the UK for family members? Do you all send presents back or was migration a good excuse to stop sending presents to all your members of the family?
Would especiallty like to hear any responses from people already in Australia.
Cheers,
Chris

We have family already in Oz and we're off as soon as we sell our house.
Our family only continued sending presents for the kids and only sent cards for the adults and it's much easier to do this with money (cheques), rather than actual gifts.
When family members go on holidays then from from Oz or Uk, they tend to bring presents as an extra then to the money.

I tended to send either novelty presents (last year for Christmas I sent a whole load of chocolates you get here but not in the UK & found a Santa on a surfboard Christmas tree decoration.) Or else I buy direct of English websites. The presents I now send tend to be token gestures though rather than anything big and expensive.

With 7 (soon to be 8 ) grandchildren, xmas is an expensive time. Not to
much for the presents, but the air mail postage for the gifts you left
to late. So this year I hope to have beaten the xmas rush. We did the
xmas shopping yesterday for the grand kids. Its great. The toy shops are
quiet and there xmas price mark ups have not happened. Now all we do is
wrap them and post then surface mail.
As for the reset of the relatives Last year I filmed some footage about
the area, the coconut palms, mango trees etc. and made up a little DVD
for them all. This year its back to the fav stand by of xmas card and
calendar.
As for those you forget to send a present to, next time you speak to
them just moan about how bad the surface mail service is and how many
items get lost.
